Beebot problems!

Oh dear, we seem to have lost the Beebot maps in school.  We have decided to make some more Darwin -Galapagos maps! How on Earth will we do that? 

After some big thinking, we decided that we needed to find out how far a beebot actually moved.  

We all agreed it was 15cm! This helped us work out how big the squares on our map needed to be. Measuring and marking out took a lot of team work!

Once we had our squares in place, we challenged each other to get the beebots to different squares on the map. 

Now we were ready to draw our islands. We practised on scrap paper first of all, then chose the best parts of each of our islands for our big map.

Then we were ready to paint!

They are starting to look really good aren't they?!

Super shapes!

Today we have been doing lots of thinking about 2d shapes. We learned that a polygon is a 2d shape with straight sides. We know what quadrilaterals are and can work out lots of different shapes by counting their sides and vertices (corners).

When we saw some shapes on the board, we had to create them using geoboard on the iPads to show what we thought they were.

We had different ideas. Isla was brilliant at reasoning about what the shapes could be and she was able to explain her ideas clearly to the rest of the class. Harvey could say why he had different ideas too. We had to change our thinking when we saw a bit more ...

After that we sorted some irregular 2d shapes. 

We had to think carefully about where they would go, and we had to explain to Miss BB and Mrs Sait why we had put them in certain places.

Our finished iBooks

We are very proud of our iBooks! We looked carefully at our success criteria to make sure that they comtained the right things like contents page, introduction, factual information etc. More photos to come soon, when they are all finished. We will save them in our iBooks and maybe print off a hard copy to share at home.

In-flight entertainment!

Our in-flight entertainment today was a new polar bear activity, in preparation for Alaska! It kept us gripped for much of the flight! It was an app called ScratchJnr and we amused ourselves by animating polar bears and their cubs. You should see what we achieved!

Polar bear iBooks!

The staff training is coming along nicely and all PEACE employees are well on their way with their polar bear iBook assignments.

PEACE staff training

This morning PEACE employees remembered a time when they attended a training session about polar bears. They learned lots of facts about their behaviour and habitat, which will help them when they organise adventure holidays for their clients. 

To pass the course they have to produce their own iBook, showing what they have learned. 

They had to remember the features of non-fiction books so that they could produce perfect books.

They set to work immediately, using what they had already learned about what polar bears eat.
