Oliver Jeffers needs our help!

We had a message from the author Oliver Jeffers on Monday morning!

 He has asked us if we have time to help him improve one of his books - of course we have! We recognised his work straight away from The Day the Crayons Quit, which we thought was marvellous. When we read The Incredible Book Eating Boy, we thought that was pretty marvellous too and we weren't sure it needed improving, but we thought we would have a go because the author had requested it. We hope we can do him proud!

Planting seeds

Today in English we were following instructions to plant some sunflower seeds. 

We followed the instructions carefully, but thought they weren't brilliant for children to follow easily, so tomorrow we shall finish writing our own!

Special letters

Last week we really enjoyed the story called The Day the Crayons Quit, by Drew Daywalt. The pictures were brilliant too as they were drawn by Oliver Jeffers. 

We wondered what it would be like if we were a pencil in the story and what it might say. Would it complain or would it be a happy pencil? We all wrote a letter to Duncan saying what we thought about how he used us.

Miss BB thought that Drew Daywalt would like to read the extra page we have written for his story, so we decided to send them to him. The letter to Duncan was informal, as if we were writing to a friend. We thought our letter to Drew should be more formal, because we really want him to read our letters. 

We have put all the letters to Duncan and all the letters to Drew Daywalt in an envelope to post. We think that he lives in America, but his publishers are here. It might take a while for him to receive them! We really hope that we get a reply!

Instructions and recipes

Today, Miss BB's Brigade have been learning about imperative verbs in instructions like recipes. We thought the easiest way to learn some was to follow a recipe ourselves, so we made apple flapjacks after carefully reading the instructions.

We hope you enjoy looking at the photographs and talking about them with your child. Look out for some instructions here soon! 

News reporters from 1666!

This week we became roving reporters from 1666! We reported lots of facts and information about the fire. You will be able to see our amazing work on display soon. 

We are animators!

You would not believe the amount of ICT skills we have been using this afternoon! Making animations uses lots of different ones. First we used the iPad camera to take photos of our creatures. We had to hold very still! 

Then we had to go on Safari and find Google. We had to remember to use Google images, to find some good backdrops for our animations. 

When we had found our images we had to use our magic finger to save them. So many things to learn and remember!

After that we needed to take photographs of our actors for the film.

Then we had to learn how to cut our actors out using puppet pals.

After that, we were finally ready to put our characters and backdrops together and have a go at making our animations. What a busy afternoon! The best thing was hearing the giggles, the 'Wows!' and the excitement around the room. Fantastic!
